The Saarinen Tulip Table is one of the most famous furniture pieces from the mid-20th century. Created in 1957, the Saarinen Table envelopes the thought and theory behind one of the 20th century's great architects.
Much of Eero Saarinen’s influence came from his father Eliel Saarinen. His early furniture designs can be traced directly to collaboration with his father during his time at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. These initial designs were unique, but quite traditional in form when compared to his later designs in the 1940s and forward. It wasn't until the post-war years that Eero Saarinen’s style was recognized as moving away from his father’s influence.
